The Land of Green Ginger – A participatory art project
by Fabiane Perrella / Flour
Summary: The Land of Green Ginger will explore spaces of encounters between refugees who have moved into Hull and their host communities. These situations will have the aim to promote mutual understanding and the possibility of sharing views and dreams for the future. This project also aspires to unveil what is particular and what is universal in their different cultures creating an artwork that encourages new types of rapport amongst those involved, including the public. The project will reveal skills and knowledge of each community that can be shared and exchanged between each group to learn from one-another. This approach is a fresh and optimistic journey with the people of Hull and will culminate in an event during Refugee Week inviting visitors to take part. The project draws on Hull’s heritage and uses the skills and crafts of refugees and local people to present a joint work of art which the whole city can take great pride in.
